General description
Sabouraud Agar with Chloramphenicol is a nutrient rich complex media designed to promote the growth of yeast and molds. It is often used with antibiotics for the isolation of pathogenic fungi from samples containing large numbers of other fungi or bacteria. Sabouraud agar contains digests of animal tissues (peptones), which provide a nutritious source of amino acids and nitrogenous compounds for the growth of fungi and yeasts.
The high concentration of dextrose in addition with the low pH promotes the growth, the formation of spores (Conidia and Sporangia) as well as the formation of pigments of yeasts and molds. On the other side, growth of bacteria is inhibited.
The low pH favors fungal growth. The medium is supplemented with chloramphenicol to prevent the growth of associated bacteria present in the test sample.

Application
Sabouraud Agar with Chloramphenicol is used to cultivate yeast and molds from test samples. It also promotes the formation of spores (conidia and sporangia) and pigments of yeasts and molds. This media is suitable for microbiological examination of non-sterile products.

Preparation Note
 - The product can be used for sampling until the expiry date if stored upright, protected from light, and properly sealed at +15°C to +25°C.
 - After the first opening of the bottle, the content can be used up to the expiry date when stored dry and tightly closed at +15°C to +25°C.
 - Prepared plates can be stored in sealed plastic pouches or bags for up to 2 weeks at +2°C to +8°C and protected from light.
